Go, and sin no more

The words of Jesus moments after He saved an adulterous woman from the Jewish death penalty, which she rightly could have suffered in that era of history.

Why did he save her? She deserved to die. She did do that sin. She was guilty and she knew it.

I believe Jesus forgave her because only He has authority on earth to forgive sins. He indeed is LORD of holiness and He can allot holiness to any who throw themselves at His mercy.

Why am I writing this right now?

Simple. The key factor here is that Jesus told her to go and sin no more. Yes; if you like to say it that way, there IS a condition on that forgiveness, because God is not mocked it says elsewhere in scripture.

That condition is repentance, having nothing further to do with that sin and those who drag you down into it. To turn away, to reject it and to live a new way.

Forgiveness is free, but in exchange we carry his 'yoke' (burden). The Bible promises that his burden is easy and his yolk is light, but it doesn't say there is no burden whatsoever.

Therefore, today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts (Hebrews). Repent of sin, turn away from sin, forgive yourself and let others forgive you. Do not be like a dog that returns to his vomit (sin).
